Model Village Trust- MVT is national level core implementing partner of ‘Vision 2026’. The program is envisioned to transform the most marginalized and backward villages in the country as ‘Model Villages’ through long-term projects and strategic, systematic and participatory intervention strategies and by partnering with like-minded organizations and groups of individuals.
MVT proposes a conceptual model village where the villagers act as decision makers, partners, and beneficiaries with multi-sartorial, multi-functional and integrated development to achieve the holistic and sustainable development backed up by futuristic and progressive skills, leading to higher levels of productivity and improvement in overall quality of life.
To achieve its long-term goal, MVT is primarily focusing on the fronts of Health, Education, WASH- Water, Sanitation & Hygiene, Livelihood, Environment & Agriculture, Women Empowerment and Emergency Relief in selected villages.
In 2005, it all started as Vision 2016, a decade-long vision to bring about sustainable change in the socio-economic status of marginalized and deprived communities living in the poorest conditions, mainly in the states of North and North-East India. After a year long highly consultative process, a flagship project was launched with the objective of closing the gaps between the two apparently distinct versions of India.
Over the last ten years, the focus has been on the North and North-East states of India, where extreme poverty largely resides today. But the goals that we adopted under the Vision 2016 plan are far from accomplished. Even back then it was envisioned that the ten years program period will be a time slice of a much longer period, needed to accomplish the goals of the program.
This plan, therefore, continues (Vision 2026) along the path laid out by the first plan but with some important modifications. Based on all that we learned from the former program, we are also modifying our approach by aiming to engage with a wider cross-section of the public so as to build a larger supporter and donor base. And we will also be aiming to build many more partnerships so that we can leverage our work and become more beneficial collectively to achieve the very ambitious goals and targets that we have set out for ourselves for the coming ten years. Through the Vision 2026 program, we aim to create a just and harmonious society where everybody shares and cares for the poor, unprivileged, and exploited people and make our society a better place to live in.
To see realisation of ideal villages where all the inhabitants lead a happy, dignified and prosperous life, ensuring social justice, self-reliance, self-respect and inclusive development, and participate in the process of nation-building.
Identifying economically and socially backward villages to bring them above national average as per the development indicators with regard to health, education, water, sanitation, hygiene and livelihood.
Striving to eliminate all kinds of discrimination based on gender, caste, class, religion and language, and help them overcome their vulnerabilities and participate in the process of nation building.
Setting up of one hundred ideal habitations across the country to set models of village development in the country.
Partnering with governmental and non-governmental organisations at local, national and international level in order to achieve the larger vision of establishing model villages.
Model Village Trust is equipped with a skill team at each level which enables us to achieve our goals. From a visionary Board of Trustees to dedicated team of Village Coordinators, all are working to achieve sustainable and holistic development of the rural communities.
